15th TULCA Festival of Visual Arts Exhibition Launch

TULCA Festival of Visual Arts is delighted to invite you to the exhibition launch and opening events of the 15th edition of the festival, curated by Matt Packer. The exhibition, titled They Call Us The Screamers, features the work of Fabienne Audeoud, Sam Basu and Liz Murray, Kian Benson Bailes, David Beattie, Oisin Byrne, Ciarán Ó Dochartaigh, Vicky Langan and Maximilian Le Cain, Liz Magic Laser, McGibbon O’Lynn, Yvette Monahan, Yoko Ono, Plastique Fantastique, Richard Proffitt, Bob Quinn, Florian Roithmayr (with Meredith Monk), Kaspar Oppen Samuelsen and Marie-Louise Vittrup, and Lucy Stein, including 13 new commissions and projects. The exhibition is presented across six venues in Galway: Galway Arts Centre, 126 Artist- Run Gallery, Nun’s Island Theatre, Connacht Tribune Print Works, Barnacles Hostel, and University Hospital Galway.

The official launch will take place at the Connacht Tribune Print Works at 19:00 on Friday 3rd November, preceded by a performance by Plastique Fantastique at Nun’s Island Theatre at 18:00.

They Call Us The Screamers takes its reference from a book written by Jenny James that gives an account of the primal therapy commune that she established in County Donegal in the mid 1970s and the controversy that followed. The reference provides the title and thematic compass for the exhibition, with artworks orientated to ideas that are held together by the historical episode, including ideas of withdrawal and selfhood, autonomy and self-sufficiency, voice and neurosis, and future culture.*
